As we age, our metabolism naturally slows down making us work a little harder to stay snatched. It happens. Your metabolism decreases about 5% a decade after the age of forty. Estrogen levels and thyroid levels go to the wayside as well, which are big factors in weight.

If you aren’t the “down a fat burner pill” type, then this is the blog for you. As most of you probably know, I like to do things as naturally as possible (minus the surgery and Botox, lol). My body doesn’t really agree with uppers and pre workouts (they make me feel nuts), so I wanted to post a little breakdown of the things I do, share my tips, and touch on some science-based metabolism boosters!

Here’s Heather’s Go-To Guide to Speed Up Your Metabolism & Get Snatched:

– Water is Key.
Start your day with water, it is SO important that you drink lots of water. I have a fridge in lieu of a bedside table, always stocked full with water. I also have a giant water bottle with positive drinking water affirmations. I like to drink at least a gallon a day. In the morning, I’ll grab my water bottle and drink while I sit up in bed and graze over emails and so forth. I also like to sip hot lemon water while I take a bath in the morning. Most mornings I do make time for a bath. It’s important to take your time in the morning, navigate your day, and set your mindsets and intentions for the day.

– Cleanse Your Digestive Track
A big part of staying, as I say, “snatched” comes from having a healthy digestive track. You should do periodic cleanses and, of course, eat as clean as possible (although I have been known to have a donut fetish, lol). Here’s a great recipe for a “weekend flush” as I call it. Perfect if you’re planning to stay in over a weekend! I usually do it the weekend before a trip while I’m busy packing!

This Detox Lemonade Cleanse Recipe I found on The Cookie Rookie is the perfect boost to fight off being sluggish.

Ingredients:
– 1 cup lemon juice
– 2 tablespoons honey
– 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
– 4 cups hot water

***TO MAKE JUST ONE MUG you can do 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/2 tablespoon honey, a pinch cayenne and ground ginger, and 1 cup hot water***

How to Make:
1. In a mug, combine the lemon juice, honey, and spices. Stir well to combine as much as possible.
2. Pour hot water into four separate glasses, about 1 cup each
3. Top each with 1/4 of the lemon mixture, making 4 drinks total. See ingredient list above if just making one drink
To maximize the cleanse, drink 6-12 glasses per day with no food for 2 days tops. I’m not a fan of long-drawn-out cleanses, I’ve fainted on those… not good.

-Regularly Take Vitamin D
Vitamin D does wonders for the metabolism. If you haven’t been living under a rock, then you already should be taking vitamin D regularly to help fight off the Rona. But did you also know that it’s a metabolism booster? Vitamin D causes your body to burn more calories after eating. It could also block the formation of new fat cells in the body. I mean, no wonder we’re all seeing better waistlines in the pandemic?! Lol. If you haven’t been supplementing your health with Vitamin D yet, then go to your local pharmacy and get some stat!

-Get Adequate Sleep
I find that on weekends, while everyone is out drinking and eating, I’m usually at home resting, hitting the gym, walking, tanning, and swimming. I really use my weekends to recharge. It’s super important to do that. If you are constantly running on empty, your metabolism will slow down even more quickly.

– Get Moving!
Taking walks and getting some exercise is super important to keep your metabolism from slowing down prematurely. Just stay active!

-Snack Smart
I often will do Juices or Smoothies to end the day. They help me curb those late-night munchies and give my body an extra boost of vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants.

Finally, all we really can do is try to be the healthiest version of ourselves as we can be, and put one foot in front of the other each and every day. We’ve all had “bad choice” days… it’s part of life. Just don’t let one bad day ruin your week, month, or even an hour more of your time. It’s just not worth it. You can do this!
