As the founder of 2 skincare brands, I understand the importance of maintaining a healthy appearance and projecting confidence. For those of us with oily skin, managing excess oil production can be a real challenge. With the right ingredients, products, and a few do-it-yourself (DIY) tips, you can tackle that challenge and effectively manage oily skin and achieve a fresh, matte complexion.
Here are some key ingredients to look for and products to consider on your journey of oily skin management:
Salicylic Acid
This beta-hydroxy acid helps to unclog pores, control oil production, and prevent acne breakouts. Look for cleansers, toners, and spot treatments that contain salicylic acid.
Witch Hazel
Known for its astringent properties, witch hazel helps to tighten pores and regulate sebum production. Incorporate witch hazel-infused toners into your skincare routine to control excess oil.
Clay Masks
Clay masks, such as those made with bentonite or kaolin clay, are excellent for absorbing excess oil and impurities. Use them once or twice a week to help mattify the skin.
Oil-Free Moisturizers
Opt for lightweight, oil-free moisturizers that provide hydration without adding extra oil to the skin. Look for non-comedogenic formulations to prevent clogged pores.
Here are some Beauty Kitchen items I like to use from BK when my skin is oily! They are great at restoring balance to your complexion. Use code TRYIT and save $10 on your purchase!
• Coral Essence Restorative Cleanser
• Coral Essence Hydrating Toner
• Coral Essence Rejuvenating Clay Mask
In addition to commercial products, you can also try DIY face masks using natural ingredients to help manage oily skin. Remember, it’s important to patch test any DIY face mask on a small area of your skin before applying it to your entire face to ensure you don’t have any adverse reactions.
Here are a few simple recipes I recommend:
Lemon and Honey Mask
Mix one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice with two tablespoons of honey. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Lemon helps control oil production, while honey soothes and moisturizes the skin.
Egg White Mask
Separate an egg white from the yolk and whisk it until frothy. Apply the egg white to your face and let it dry for 15 minutes before rinsing. Egg whites help tighten the skin and reduce oiliness.
Oatmeal and Yogurt Mask
Combine two tablespoons of ground oatmeal with one tablespoon of plain yogurt. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing. Oatmeal absorbs excess oil, while yogurt helps balance the skin’s pH levels.
