HEATHER MARIANNA THE BEAUTY GURU

Do you guys remember when you were younger getting fruit roll-ups in your packed lunches? Maybe I’m just making myself sound dated, but I always loved these as a kid. Now that I’m older and wiser, I know how packed with preservatives and nasty amounts of sugar these are, and I won’t dare eat them.  Neither should you, or your kids, or anyone you know! Instead, I’ve got this super simple recipe to make a healthier version. Perfect to throw in your kids’ lunches or keep around the house for a snack, and a nice healthy alternative to grocery store options.

Let me tell you something, this recipe couldn’t be easier. With only four ingredients, it’s a fool proof snack made of all-natural ingredients that comes together to make the absolute best childhood throwback treat.

Ingredients
  • Fresh fruit (your choice… I used strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries for my combo)
  • Honey (https://www.omahabees.com/)
  • Lemon juice
  • Vanilla
Utensils & Equipment You’ll Need to Make This Snack

You’ll only need a handful of items to make fruit leather roll ups. Out of all of the tools, one of the most important is the food processor and blender! However, if you don’t have one handy, a blender will definitely work.

  • A shallow baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Cutting board
  • Cutting knife
  • Food processor/Blender
  • Spoon or spatula for spreading
  • Measuring Spoons

For measuring, you’ll need to be able to measure out 1 tsp, 1 tbsp, and 1 cup.

Directions:

All you really have to do to make this recipe is blend the ingredients together in a bowl, then spread them out into a flat layer on a baking sheet, let them cook in the oven, then cool and cut!

-To start making your magic fruit ropes, preheat the oven to 170°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

– Use 3 cups of fruit. Clean the fruit, cut off the stems, and place it in a food processor and process until smooth. (I used 2 cups of strawberries, and 1 cup of the blueberry & blackberry combo.)

-Next, transfer the processed fruit to a small saucepan and add 2 tbsp of Honey, 1 tsp of Lemon juice, and 1 tsp of vanilla. Heat over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

-After 10 minutes, pour the mixture onto a baking sheet and smooth it out until it’s evenly spread. It doesn’t have to go all the way to the edges of the baking sheet, but you’ll want the layer to be fairly thin.

-Bake for 4 hours, or until no longer sticky to the touch.

-Let cool completely before cutting into strips and rolling, and then store at room temperature. One pan makes about 6 rolls.

I love to use strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries in my fruit roll-ups, however you can experiment with whatever fruit you’d like. Essentially anything will work, and you can get creative with different combos!

  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Cherries
  • Grapes
  • Bananas
  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Peaches

Depending on what you use, you may need to adjust your baking time a bit. Just keep an eye as it cooks, and bake until it’s no longer sticky to the touch.

Happy fruit rolling!
