Watching the news can be draining with all the troubling things going on in the world. We’ve all seen how it can shift you into a bad mood. Unfortunately, not watching and learning from the news is also a bad move, we can’t just bury our heads in the sand. Why? Because being aware of what’s going on the world is pivotal to your business survival and growth.

Back in 2020, I was way ahead of the hand sanitizer game before anyone else, and even had the city of Houston as a client, selling hundreds of thousands of dollars in hand sanitizer in a matter of months. Now, let’s take for example the forecasts for 2023 being reported on, particularly in the jobs and money sector. We have inflation taking extra money out of our pay weekly, we have companies on hiring freezes, and layoffs. We also have that big bad word “RECESSION” circulating. ALL OF THIS SEEMS BAD, but let’s take what we are learning from this.

Three sets of words come to mind:
-Self Employed
-Self Development
-Personal Growth

If there’s ever a time to start building that side business, it’s now. If there’s ever a time to get organized with your finances, it’s now. If there’s ever a time for you to work on self-development and personal growth, the time is now. Why? Not only is it possible to make extra money with a side business, but doing so can be a way to stay ahead of inflation and add an additional 10%, 20%, or 30% to your monthly income outside of your full-time job. AND, if you really work at it, you can actually eventually quit your 9-5. If you want to get into the body and skincare world, I’m your girl! You can book a 1-hr consultation call with me here. However, no matter what type of side business you’re interested in, you should start now and set yourself up for a fabulous 2023. Don’t want to start a business? You can still work on self-development and personal growth. Hire a coach or take online courses on what you want to learn about.

Here a few big reasons why you should invest in self-development.

1. It boosts your confidence
Investing in yourself will boost your confidence level regarding your own abilities and have a positive impact on your self-esteem. As well as equipping you with new knowledge and skills, focusing on your personal development will help you get to know yourself better. You’ll become more aware of your unique set of strengths, values, and passions, and how you can use these to achieve your goals. Research shows that those who spend 5 hours or more on learning each week are more likely to feel that their lives have purpose and meaning, which in-turn increases their overall happiness and wellbeing.

2. It opens up new career opportunities for you
Taking the time to invest in yourself will bring immense benefits to your career, both in the short and long term. You are your greatest asset, and in crude terms, developing your skill-set will boost your market value, whether you’re seeking a promotion from your current role or applying for a new job.

3. It helps you build connections
Signing up for a new course, workshop, or activity will help you grow your network and meet like-minded people. Over time, these relationships can turn into business opportunities or collaborations. As a side note, it’s important to point out that as well as investing in yourself, you need to invest in your relationships. Networking is most successful when you approach it with a reciprocal mindset that benefits both parties, rather than just focusing on what’s in it for you. It’s a great way to forge relationships for your new business and/or create new ones for your existing career.

4. It helps you adapt to change
Technology and workplaces are changing faster than ever before. Expanding and updating your skill set will ensure that you are ready to adapt to these changes. This also means learning things about social media, marketing, reels, and all the things you may need for your new business or current job/business.

5. It keeps your mind healthy
Continuous learning promotes brain health and lowers your risk of mental health problems, Alzheimer’s, and Dementia. The mental stimulation provided by challenging yourself to learn new skills can help limit the adverse effects of ageing on the memory and mind. I always feel way better after finishing a course!
